MDS Prof. PhD. Prof. and Dr. hon. Causa mult.. Director of N.N.Burdenko National Medical Research Center of Neurosurgery, Moscow, Russia (1975–2014). Member of Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR since 1982. Honorary Member of EMN 2000. Director National Medical Research Center NN Burdenko. Since 1994 he has been heading the Chair of paediatric neurosurgery at the Academy of Postgraduate Education. Over the years he had consistently supported an extension of international communication with foreign colleagues. Delegations of Soviet neurosurgeons began to regularly take part in international event. From 1981 to 1991 Prof. Konovalov was President of the All-Union Neurosurgical Society; twice he was elected as Vice-President of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (1981-1985 and in 1993) and two times as a Vice-President of the European Ass..of Neurosurgical Societies (1975-1983 and 1987-1991). Numerous neurosurgical congresses and targeted workshops at the Burdenko Institute allowed a most fruitful exchange of actual problems and specialist questions in all areas of modern operative neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neuro-oncology and, last but not least, intensive care medicine and early rehabilitation. The new “N.N.Burdenko National Medical Research Center of Neurosurgery” campus reflects the enormous innovations and additional special facilities in diagnostics and therapy that had been achieved within the last two decades.
